Changing Mindsets

I came across this comment in one of my journals, "We are not being called to do what we can do, but are being called to do what He is able to do through us. Are you ready?"

I can’t remember where I got that from, but it got me meditating on it all day yesterday and into the evening. We often don’t do what we dream of doing because we think the dream or goal is so out of reach. Many have heard the question, “How do you eat an elephant?” and the answer, “One bite at a time.” Can you see yourself eating an elephant whole? No, but changing the perception of the task, to one bite at a time, it becomes more attainable. You must change your mindset. When you see things as impossible, you have to KNOW that all things are possible.

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 -NIV

We often dismiss the abilities that GOD has, because we forget to ponder on it. We forget that He is for us. We also forget that it is because of Him that we have the finances from the job we are currently at or were at, or that we are even here because He has us here…period.

I began to look up studies on how the mind, (what you think,) can help heal or keep you sick. You may have heard of the placebo effect; if not, it’s when you feel better after taking a fake treatment. You read that right. A FAKE TREATMENT! It works because your mind believes its going to, and in turn your body responds by creating what’s needed to help subside the symptoms. If you don't believe something is going to work, then ultimately it won't because your body is lining up with your thoughts. Same goes with weightloss. Many don't because they have told themselves they can't. Your body is just correlating with what you have told it.

Proverbs 19:21 -NKJV “Death and life are in the power of the tongue,”

The same can go for success. I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth but that doesn’t mean I can’t be successful. Just because I grew up in lack or dysfunction, doesn't mean I have to stay in lack. or dysfunction. Or furthermore, I don't have to repeat those patterns and cycles in my family now. Your mind determines the life you choose to achieve and attain.

One of my most favorite movies is The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith. It’s based off the true story of Chris Gardner, a failed medical equipment salesman, later homeless, and a single father who became a stockbroker. There were many scenes in the movie that just pulled at your heart strings, seeing the struggles that he went through. All that he strived for, he ultimately got. What many don’t know is that this man later founded his own brokerage firm and has become a multimillionaire and is a motivational speaker. His is truly a rags-to-riches story. Was it easy? No. But, he didn't allow his circumstances to define him and keep him in a place of defeat. He overcame them! He made up his mind that he was not going to remain in the pits of life. He was going to rise out of them!

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” - Romans 12:2 NIV

God’s will is good, pleasing and perfect! That, my friends, is worth shouting for! If God be for you, who can be against you? For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord! That’s Romans 8:38! Let's make it personal though, Perlita’s version: For I am persuaded that neither my past abuse, mistakes, divorce, lack, sickness, disease, joblessness, addictions can separate me from the love of God and His good, pleasing and perfect will for my life.
