Reset Your Thoughts

A study conducted at the University of Michigan revealed that 73 percent of adults between the ages of 25 and 35 overthink. Surprisingly the numbers were lower at 52 percent for people within the age of 45 - 55 years.

What causes overthinking?

Fear, uncertainty, guilt, anxiousness, and remorse are all emotions that may lead to overthinking.

Martyn Lloyd-Jones wrote that overthinking and self-evaluation can actually encourage and contribute to spiritual depression.

There is a type of person who tends to be always analyzing himself, analyzing everything he does, and worrying about the possible effects of his actions, always harking back, always full of vain regrets.

The Bible teaches us in 2 Corinthians 10:5

"take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

The primary point in this section of 2 Corinthians is that we are in a spiritual warfare.

Paul used the imagery of war where an enemy would be ensnared, subdued, and led away.

Taking your thoughts captive simply means gaining control over what you think about yourself and life. Check out the three points below:

1. You cannot defeat what you don’t define.

2. We cannot stop Satan from planting harmful thoughts in our heads; however, it is our choice in how we react to those thoughts. (We have the victory in God)

3. Your mind - not just your behavior - must change. God calls us to change sinful behavior that does not honor Him. Instead of focusing on your outward behavior, work on disciplining your mind - from which the behaviors stem. Allow God to transform you by the renewing of your mind (Rom. 12:2

Conclusion: Make it obedient to Christ

Make meaning - to cause to exist, occur, or appear : create make a disturbance.
